We had a recovery trailer with us so the bike could have got back to Perth. I was just about to re-climb the scrub covered hill to try and find it when my friend tapped me on the shoulder and asked "Are you looking for this?". I went bush biking with half a dozen mates in the desert 1000 km from Perth and lost the key. On the Subaru forums there are references to how to program a type 2 fob but I reckon I can live with being old school and if necessary unlock the car manually. I got 2 type 1, 2A, 3 keys for $150 from a guy on Gumtree for $150 each in Perth. Also useful to wire up under the vehicle so if you lose the key you can at least get into the vehicle while waiting for recovery. If you want to go swimming and leave the full function key inside the vehicle you can get a type 1 key from any key cutting place for a few dollars. This is why they claim they are so expensive but if you can get a vastly more complicated full function mobile phone for say $100 I think they are a total ripoff. Ignition - most are still (A) turn but some are (B) proximity plus push button on dashboard Immobiliser deactivation - usually by proximity these days Remote locking / unlocking - most are still (A) push button but some are by (B) proximity My mechanic quoted $500.Ī friend with a Toyota Landcruiser took his key swimming.
